Final Cut Pro X (FCPX) Title: Simple Callout v.1
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 2:02
While putting together this video, I discovered that the Type On/Type Off parameters were being ignored upon "sharing"/exporting and the keyframes were being erased every time I quit and restarted FCPX. It made me very unhappy and I almost put this effect on the back burner... I like it too much so I changed out the broken part with a simple Opacity. It's not quite the same, but I doubt too many people would notice the difference. As soon as Apple fixes the problem, I'll release a v2 with the type on-off effect put back in.
This effect can also be used as a simple circular bug.

Final Cut Pro X (FCPX) Title: Denim Casual LT (Lower third) + Tutorial
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 6:49
The Lower Third companion to Denim Casual. Or standalone. Five denim color options (two of which are like... very retro 60's.)
Features a tip for creating drop zone content within Final Cut Pro to create "Patch Logos" OR "Inline graphics" for drop zones. Tutorial demonstrates the use of Titles, but other media types can be used as well. Once used, the designed graphics can be discarded from the storyline.

Final Cut Pro X (FCPX) Title: Inner Fire
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 0:53
Only use one line of text per "instance" used. This effect does not handle spreading the fire pattern over more than one line. If your text goes beyond the fire pattern, use the Spread parameter to just fill the text. Taking the Spread too far changes the the effect.

Final Cut Pro X (FCPX) Templates/Plug-ins: Progress Circle and Progress Knob 2
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 1:31
Two feature rich, related templates for fcpx. One is a Title and the other is a Generator. There is a Read Me file outlining where each needs to be installed.
Note: occasionally, the indicators will not complete at 100% when keyframed; if so, just click and drag the number value up past 100% (the value is clamped to 100, so it will not exceed that value.)

Category: Film & Animation
Length: 1:21
Modified version of the original. Don't need 5 lines? You can select as many as you need from 1 - 5. Need more? Timing is consistent no matter the trim, so match ends of several instances. You can even animate the color scheme.

Apple Motion Demo Project (& download): RGB Slider OSC
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 1:08
A Motion demo of how to build a HUD-like onscreen control set. This is a very simple project, well labelled and easily explored. This project is a complete Final Cut Pro X generator that can be installed and used as a color solid background generator.
The key features are the Fixed Resolution Groups created to help manipulate the Poke filter OSC values in a restricted space. The '0' to '1' values are a perfect correspondence to the 0-1 values of the R, G, & B elements of the linked color. The Kaleidotile filter is an excellent OSC for keeping the grouped parts together and moving them around the screen.
Study the relationship of Fixed Resolution groups and the contained controls and graphic objects used to "draw" the HUD.
Install into FCPX as a generator.
To use the OSCs together as a group in Motion, Command-select the Kaleidotile filter and the three PokeOSC filters. This will activate them so they can be used at the same time in the Canvas.

Final Cut Pro X (FCPX) Title: IM Bug (v.1)
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 1:34
Due to the nature of the design of this Title effect, the individual "bugs" cannot be animated from within the effect. That said, this title effect makes it very easy to create an IM (instant message) "bug" in FCPX. Resizing the bug auto-resizes the text (when the vertical aspect is sized.) Resizing uses font Size and not Scale for high resolution quality. It is easy to adjust the text for multiline "messages" using the title's parameters (it is not recommended using the Text inspector properties.)
A major feature of this title effect is that the corner roundness is not distorted when resizing the bug backgrounds (and the main reason why these cannot be animated positionally or dimensionally.)
This effect has been on my "request list" for awhile now (finally figured out how to work around the rounded corners issue!) It is "versioned," so I expect to be able to make improvements in the future.
BTW, I implemented outlines but did not include them in the published Title (I don't think they look good enough [kind of "chunky"]), even though they work quite well.) If you want them, and have Motion, you can get in and turn them on.

Final Cut Pro X (FCPX) Effect: The Floor (plugin - template)
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 1:56
Easy and actually fun to use. Create perfect arc animations for clips in FCPX. The clip's center is *always* on the circle used as the guide. The "pole" marks the center of the "universe". When keyframing animation, setting all positions and rotations back to 0 brings the clip "back home". Easy.
You can also reverse clips (flip image) to utilize front side of circles—you're not limited to just the back side. You have control over the reflectivity of "the floor". You also can eliminate the floor altogether by setting the Floor Designer opacity to 0.
Have fun!

Final Cut Pro X (FCPX) Title: Cinebox 4K (updated)
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 1:48
A remake of Cinebox redesigned to be compatible with 4K (UltraHD) format. New design features: smaller, less obtrusive onscreen controls; boxing onscreen controls stay together; opacity is now uniform throughout. Default font has been changed to Helvetica Neue Condensed Black.

Final Cut Pro X (FCPX) Title: Media Wall
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 1:10
I built a version of this in Motion 4 for Final Cut Studio about 4 years ago. I couldn't duplicate exactly what I had built so I put this version together. Features "hinged" columns, camera controls, view angle and elevation, "monitor" trim size and corner roundness, and text controls for animating position and rotation. Not featured in the video and added afterwards are controls for the floor and wall reflections.
Very easy to use: just put it over any section of the storyline you want in the video wall. Animate the storyline clip's transforms to animate the video in the Media Wall.
For camera alignments, the horizontal centers of the monitor panes are: -768, -384, 0, 384, 768; vertical centers: -432, -216, 0, 216, 432.

Final Cut Pro X (FCPX) Generator: Christmas Lights
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 1:50
Happy Holidays!
A little holiday offering: Christmas Lights. Hah! I'm actually early this year!
This one runs a little heavy on processing resources if you load it up with a lot of lights (complex replicator). Just beware. The scene with 160 little lights took several minutes to render a 10 second (compound) clip.
While I'm thinking about it -- to maintain the flashing timing if need to shorten the generator, it's best to leave it at 10 seconds, make a compound clip and cut the compound to size. I wouldn't recommend stretching out the generator longer than 20 seconds if you need a decent flashing speed.

Final Cut Pro X (FCPX) Generator: Utility Arrow

Final Cut Pro (FCPX) Generator: Leaves - Fall
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 2:00
Some of the features: foreground and background opacity (background opacity built into the gradient designer.) Wind simulation. Separate speed settings (to help adjust when lengthening the generator in the storyline.) Variable size, spin and birth rates. Drop shadow parameters included (although the default settings are probably the best.) Also, if you don't like the leaf "spread" -- just hit the Random Seed button to change everything up.

Candycanes in the Snow: An FCPX Title template
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 6:05
A little holiday fare for the season.
This title uses the Scheme font (available with FCPX and Motion 5.) If it does not appear when you add it to your project, you may need to move the font from FCPX to your system fonts. This article will tell you how:
http://blog.alex4d.com/2011/07/20/motion-5-fcx-built-in-fonts/
Scheme is great because it already looks like stick candy :D Plus, it works well with a little trick I applied to make it look three-dimensionally rounded.
You can further customize the candycane color pattern in the Text inspector, Face, Gradient, and turn down the disclosure triangle. You can change the colors, move the bands or add more/remove some of them if you like. You can even use this title in a more conventional way by colorizing more conservatively.
It is recommended that you do not make any adjustments to the Drop Shadow section in the text pane, only use the controls available in the Title inspector.

Crystal Ball - Snow Globe: An effect for FCPX (plus Table-Wood generator)
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 1:42
This is the video I developed Curtains for ;)
I didn't use any stock footage — I was in a hurry to get this out the door. It is basically a holiday offering, but at the last minute, I converted it to function as a simple "crystal ball".
I also created and included a parsons table generator. Simply place the generator under the effect clip, then select the effect clip and in the Inspector — Transform — Scale, select the value and type in 67 (sets the effect to fit perfectly on the Table surface.) There are parameters to adjust the table in view, but there will be limits because the top will distort (there is a correction control...)
I hope you watch all of the video - the effect at about 1:15 is ... rather nice. It really is a decent effect for regular types of media, but this video demonstrates how it can be used with titling effectively.
Happy Holidays Y'all! Enjoy!

Season's Greetings from Sight-Creations! (plus generator template for FCPX)
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 1:21
Don't worry, my logo is not part of the generator.
This generator is 20 seconds long. The last 10 seconds is designed to loop. I recommend adding this to an empty storyline, edit what you want to say, then export (share) just that 20 second generator (rendering time on this generator is a bit steep). Delete the generator, import the video aligned to the beginning of the project. Blade the video at exactly 10.00 seconds. Option click drag the 2nd half to loop the end for as long as you need.
If you like the design you can download generator for your own use from:
http://sight-creations.com/free_stuff/sc_greeting2013.zip
there's still time to use it!
"Season's Greetings" is editable and the candle is optional. There's room to add your own extra text with basic titles to personalize this. The font is Edwardian Script. It is recently included with FCPX 10.1 and if you've upgraded, you should have it available.
I didn't have a lot of time to do much more with it. If you have Motion... ;)
Happy Holidays everyone!
Thank you to all my subscribers and especially those who have contributed donations this year.
Final Cut Pro X (FCPX) Generator: US Map
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 2:57
Each state is meticulously "hand-drawn" (traced with bezier pen tool) in Motion as shapes. The entire map is the collection of states perfectly aligned. The original artwork was created to fit in a 4K project (so — quite large.) You have permission to copy the individual state shapes to use in your own Motion projects (but not the entire map) subject to the overall software license that accompanies this template.
The OSC (on-screen control) can be used to animate the map. When the Scale and the X & Y rotation are 0, the OSC does nothing. Once you've changed any of these parameters, the OSC acts as the center of the operation. About the only thing that can't be animated is state changes. To do that (as I did in the demo) is to set up one instance of the generator, set the number of frames to whatever you need (I used 6) then option drag a copy/duplicate and change the state to whatever is needed next.

Bats: a multilayer generator for FCPX and Motion 5
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 2:29
I finally found something I could use Toccata in d with :D
It is possible to use just the Bats layer, just the Moon layer and just the background Night Sky (or any gradient you want - the "sky designer" is included.) You could slip titles or green screened material in under the bats and/or the moon layers to include your own material in the effect.

Final Cut Pro X (FCPX) Title: Warp Text 1.0
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 3:29
Companion to Fun Type, better 3D effect, better onscreen controls.

Final Cut Pro X (FCPX) generator: Waving Flag 2.1 (updated)
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 1:22
Redesigned to address problems with the previous drop zone and the automatically turned on effect of cropping that is always applied.
This update replaced the original Waving Flag generator if you are current with Final Cut Pro updates. If you're still using an older version of Final Cut, please use the original version.
Note:
The "aspect ratio" of the American Flag is 1:1.9. In terms of 1080 HD, the dimensions of the flag are: 1920 by 1010. That means 35 pixels will be trimmed off the top and bottom of any replacement media used in the drop zone. Any flag images used to replace the US Flag should have the same aspect ratio/dimensions in order to properly fit the region.
The US Flag image used as the default drop zone source was designed in Motion. It is available for your use with this template. It is subject to the same licensing restrictions as the template itself (license details accompany the template in the .zip download.)

Brochure I: An Effect for FCPX (plugin/template)
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 1:26
Brochure I can be viewed as a storytelling tool for editors.
Brochure was designed as an Effect in order to do away with the necessity for a drop zone (there are problems with drop zones). Simply apply this to any clip or composite clip — there is no time limit. Brochure has three text elements that are attached to "folds". Brochure can also be manipulated as a transition.
Brochure's main control is a single slider control that opens and closes the brochure effect (this brochure is a "closed gate" style.)
To make progressive changes in the effect, simply apply to a long clip, animate the first stages, then blade. The last state will be the first state of the new cut. Animate the next section, and blade. etc.
No part of this effect is animated. You are responsible for all keyframed animations. This allows you start at "either end" of the effect (or somewhere in the middle.) There are many unique ways to use this effect.

Curtains & Curtains Reversed: 2 Generators (templates/plugins) for FCPX
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 1:05
On my way to creating another video for another template, I wanted to use curtains, but I have never liked the background generator supplied with FCPX, so I made these.
This download contains two generators (very lightweight - both will only set you back about 0.5MB.)
The "spotlight" feature is only in the standard Curtains effect (it's the one where the curtains close to form a background.) Curtains Reversed doesn't need a light since it should be used to "open up" on a scene.
Color changes can be keyframed just like any other "value" parameter.
The Edge Shadow in Curtains is customizable as well.
Tip: both generators can by cut to use only one end of the animation at a time. The build in for Curtains and the build out for Curtains Reversed is 4 seconds long. The build out for Curtains and the build in for Curtains Reversed is 2 seconds long. Cutting anywhere in between those settings will not "cut into" the effect you're trying to use shortened. I leave the creative "ramifications" of this information to you!
Turning off the Build In/Out options will simply be a "plain" curtain backdrop (in Curtains) or literally "nothing" in Curtains Reversed ;)

To all: you need to be on YouTube's site for this link to work. If you try to follow the link from any other site (for instance, facebook) then you will end up on a page explaining this.
Safari users: when you click this link from the YouTube page, you will quite likely only see a blank page — Safari automatically downloads this file to your designated "Downloads" folder (by default, the Users : YOU : Downloads folder or check Safari Preferences) and automatically unzips the files. Clicking on the "Date Modified" column header will bring all three files to the top (there is an included Software License as a JPEG image that accompanies the two generator folders.)
About the music "What Are The Odds?" :
The piano part is thirty-one seven note groups followed by a single end note. The "bass" part is nine notes total (used by two instruments.) Those are the odds ;) Melody is somewhat random (varied arpeggiation patterns on a C scale in different "modal" arrangements over a scalar series of pedal points; one ascending, one descending.)
Free FCPX Templates—Effect: Photocopy—Transition: Copier
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 1:33
A 2-fer ;)
Photocopy is an effect. It is reminiscent of the Photocopy filter in Photoshop. It sometimes looks like Pen & Ink; sometimes like High-Contrast B&W (from the good/bad old days of film! That rose in the middle of the video was pretty awesome - wasn't it?) Not all media will be usable with this effect, but there are enough controls to get something rather nice from most media. The most important parameters are near the top. It shouldn't be necessary to change more than the top two parameters for the majority of images. However... experiment with different techniques and more of the parameters.
Copier is a very simple transition (no parameters). The incoming clip comes down from the top like paper out of a copier and drops slightly as if into a tray (with a slight curve to the bottom edge.) It seemed a perfect complement for the Photocopy effect.
Download both templates in one zipped file here:
http://sight-creations.com/free_stuff/sc_photocopyCopier.zip
You will need to install the effect (Photocopy) into Motion Templates/Effects/(category) and the transition (Copier) into Motion Templates/Transitions/(category)

Free Final Cut Pro X (plugin/template) Title: Mini Scroller
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 1:08
It takes a little work to craft a beautiful effect (that means you've got to keyframe a few things.) Or, you can use it as a static _____ third -- just position it and put some text in. It's versatile.
"Eternal Grace" is derived from the name of the deep drone sound from Native Instruments Razor software synth.

Free Final Cut Pro Generators (FCPX templates/plugins): Dividers + The Quad X 2
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 5:30
Two useful generators.
Dividers will allow you to quickly and easily separate areas in your video for insets and/or titling (retro 60's/70's TV opening sequences.) Several features include individual color "backgrounds" (or overlays) with opacity control, line thickness, and rotation! OnScreen Controls to allow you to quickly set the lines (as well as rotate the set.) Need more than 4 sections? Stack this generator to create more. Dividers is fast, lightweight and versatile.
The Quad X is an extension of dividers. It features four drop zones which, by default, will always be centered within their respective sections (parameters to offset the DZs from their centered locations included, as well as opacities for each to facilitate fade in/out effects.) The Quad X is not capable of rotation however (at this time.)

Free Final Cut Pro X (FCPX) Effect: ASCII Art
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 1:01
It's not "real" ASCII art... but it's a pretty good fake, and it has interesting side effects available.
I'll restate the warning card here:
Expect longer than average render times.
Expect not to be able to play clips with this effect without first rendering.
I released it because I felt it was worth putting up with the longer rendering times. It is capable of producing beautiful black & white from color.

The license is included in the effect.

Free Final Cut Pro X (FCPX) Generator: Test Pattern HD
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 0:43
Very simple generator which might be entertaining for some retro projects. Patterned after "classic" test patterns used in the early days of television and reformatted for 16:9 HD aspect. Customizable "Call Sign" and channel text. Background and color bars also can be customized. Remember that when using the gradient controls supplied, it is possible to set the *opacities* across the range (so this generator can be used to overlay background video if you so choose, meaning: the background can actually be removed if you prefer.)

20 Apple Motion Basic Generators for Final Cut Pro X
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 0:41
These are 20 of the basic generators available in Apple Motion that were not provided in FCPX (18 graphic, 2 text). In general, these all have all the necessary parameters you would have in Motion. Some have a one or two extra added, but only convenience parameters (like an onscreen control along with Font and Style properties for the Text generators Numbers and Time Date.)
For a few, the inspector behavior is slightly different in Motion. If you change a checkbox option, the parameter list changes; however, for FCPX, both sets have to be available. See the Read Me and the notes section for clarification.
For many of the graphical generators, their best use in FCPX will be in combination with Composite + Blend Mode in the Video Inspector (tab).
All 20 generators amount to 3.1MB of disk space!

The "Build In" last for 2 seconds of the length of the generator. Any keyframing that affects the "emitter" needs to be completed within the actual timing of the animation (i.e.: the first 2 seconds.)
This software marks a change in licensing for *some* of my effects (particularly those that generate "artistic" content). Make sure you read the License that accompanies this generator. As long as you use this generator *within* your own creative works, and don't simply generate media for use in other templates, there won't be any problems.
Hope you enjoy it!
PS: I haven't really been able to do tutorial style videos since March due to various reasons, and that's the hold-up on Piet's Canvas (and others). Hope to be back to "normal" soon.
Free Final Cut Pro X (FCPX) generator: Spirotechnics
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 1:25
The timing of this release is coincidental. The method used to create these graphics is completely different than outlined by Mark Spencer in his latest MacBreak Studio Motion tutorial.
It's amazing what you can do with a single tiny rectangle.

Please read the ReadMe file, there is a slight change in licensing. You are still free to use this generator in private or commercial works as long as it is derivative to *your* work. I'm limiting the ability to create video-based templates for sale that are completely generated by this — or any of my other — effects.

Center Cut Safe Zones — a free generator for Final Cut Pro X (the missing guides)
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 2:27
No, I'm not referring to a cut of beef...
Broadcast TV stations are now accepting HD format media for advertising (I guess it would depend on your region/market)... Most stations have more than one channel (a primary, usually in HD and sideband channels, usually in SD.) It's easier for them to use one master and crop the center for 4:3 aspect channels.
This generator will help you compose overlays to serve both 16:9 and 4:3 formats at the same time.

Free Final Cut Pro X Effects: Animated Masks (keyframeable Garbage Mattes) 3-Sets!
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 6:03
Three free effects: Animated 4pt Mask, 2 Mask Set, and 4 Mask Set, to be installed as a theme for the Keying effect section. (The 2 Mask Set is equivalent to an 8 point mask, and the 4 Mask Set is equivalent to a 16 point mask.) All mask sets support individual parameters for linear or b-spline curve shapes, roundness (for linear), feathering with falloff, interaction mode as well as inversion, and individual keyframeable points with onscreen controls. (The 2 and 4 Mask sets also contain visible guides to help you keep track of which points go with which mask shape.)
Mask effects can be combined on a single clip for more advanced masking, but recommend only using the single 4pt mask to keep things simple.
These three effects are already bundled inside a "theme" folder intended for the Keying effects folder in Motion Templates/Effects.

Free Final Cut Pro X (FCPX) Generator: Event Horizons
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 2:04
Notes:
This effect looks absolutely beautiful in FCPX's canvas. This video does not do this generator justice.
However, getting a good export without gradient banding is going to be difficult. If you have Compressor, use the Animation codec. Otherwise, make sure your project starts and ends with ProRes 4444 or better (Uncompressed 10-bit, recommended.)
Expect long render times with this effect.
The parameters:
Spin Rate
Angle of View (this is the "camera" view - hard to explain - play with it for different
"perspective" effects - recommend staying within 0-45)
Spin Axis (X or horizontal, Y or vertical, Z or "spin rotation")
Shape Count (you can add as many as you like; remember render time;
not recommended for keyframing)
Random Placement - the shapes that create the effect can be randomly placed in
in space in different locations
Color Range - a gradient; add/subtract colors; ANIMATE colors!; move midpoints.
Opacity controlled by the controller(s) for the "greyscale" above
the colors
Random CSR - C = color; S = scale; R = rotation - for the shapes in their placement
set by the first Randomizer, clicking this parameter can be used to
change these parameters
Glow Mix :)
Glow Brightness
Feather
Falloff
Copy Opacity - this is an interesting addition. A "stationary" copy against the spinning
originals blended together... reducing this control to zero gives you
only the original shapes in space. Blending the copy creates ... well...
you'll see!
You CAN place one Event Horizons generator OVER another to blend even more and to "change directions" for the effect.
Use as a background or overlay (don't forget about composite blending from the Video tab in the inspector.)
Download from:

It's free!
Enjoy!
PS - Go to Final Cut Pro (menu) : Provide Final Cut Pro Feedback... and let Apple know that gradient banding is unacceptable from a professional app.
Audio (Ghostly Lights) is an original "twelve-tone" (serial) composition and utilized Native Instruments software synths (Razor and Prism). No effort was made to "synchronize" the audio to the visuals. Any "sense" of synchronicity is the phenomenon of synchronicity :D Cool, huh?!

Free Final Cut Pro X (FCPX) Title: ZPR (Ken Burns round trip?)
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 5:31
ZPR stands for Zoom, Pan, Return... not terribly original, but it's not really a "Ken Burns" effect and once you get into it, you'll see what I mean... so I needed a different kind of name. If you wanna call it "zipper"... that's cool...
This is a 4 stage title: home position, zoom to "green" rectangle region, pan/zoom to "red" rectangle region, return to home position. Green and Red rectangles provided for setup and are turned off when finished.
There are onscreen controls to control the positions of the "target" rectangles... AND... you can keyframe those positions (which means you can implement your own image stabilization when the "camera" is paused on the focus region!)

Free Final Cut Pro X (FCPX) Transition: Puzzle and a tutorial on Hold Frames
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 7:08
Took long enough, didn't it? I sincerely apologize. I'll get into the middle of a tutorial and run into unexpected "issues" from time to time. Clearing it all up can get complicated sometimes.
The Hold Frames tutorial goes with this, as well as for many other types of transitions where excessive motion in the video detracts from the effect. Sometimes freezing those frames is a very effective technique and only costs ONE frame of video!
If you know all about hold frames, please let the video run its course. You don't have to listen, but it helps me out with the monetization stuff...

Free FCPX generator: Digital Slate EZ (Film/Video Slate/Clapperboard/Clapboard + Free Font)
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 10:34
There is a font which I created included with this template (please read the following paragraph carefully):
Digital Display (©1996 by FX Mahoney) Type 1 typeface license: by downloading this software you agree that you will not distribute or cause to be distributed to any third party for any reason. In exchange, you have the right to use the output of this typeface for any display purpose, private or commercial, in any application, either printed or in video.
This is an updated version of the FCP7/Motion 4 Template I released a year and a half ago. The main feature is an accurate running clock (seconds/frames - the rest needs to be keyframed to change minutes or hours.) Another feature is a customizable clapper color scheme (default is Black/White, but each band can be colored to your chosing.)
The "clock" should accurately work in 59.94/60 fps projects as well; however, the clock will still be a 29.97/30 fps clock. For 59.94/60 fps projects, move the start of the generator to 2 frames preceding the timing required to "sync" the clock (I don't know why this is, but it works.) So, for example, if you want to sync the timecode of the clock to the storyline, if you were to start the clock a HH:MM:30:00, then in a 60/59.94 project, you would align the generator to HH:MM:29:58.
Download from:
http://sight-creations.com/free_stuff/sc_digislate.zip
I don't know how this generator works in a 23.98/24 or 25fps project. You'll have to experiment. I believe FCPX will line it up accurately, but you should expect skipped frames.
I apologize for the quality of the video, especially around the do the math part -- I recorded it on Friday the 13th (and coincidentally, today is the 13th day since then)... there were... gremlins... yeah ... that's right... gremlins [did I sound like Jon Lovitz there?].
Final Cut Pro X News Titles and Transitions Makeover (colorize the backgroud graphics)
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 0:40
Red is not always my color of choice, and I prefer to be able to use transitions and titles for more than just one type of video, so...
Added Hue, Saturation, Value and Brightness parameter controls to allow colorizing the background graphics for the News themed transitions and titles. All 8 are included in the download plus *general* installation instructions. The titles and transitions will need to be installed in different folders inside Motion Templates, so be careful. The general installation instructions do not cover creating a Theme.
All of these effects have been renamed (so you will not accidentally replace/overwrite the original effects) as News [effect name] SC. They should always be grouped together if you decide not to "theme" them.
To create a Theme: Inside the Titles/CategoryName and Transitions/CategoryName folders respectively, create a New Folder with the nane: News (if it does NOT already exist) and move the new versions of those effects into the theme folder (that means you would be creating a News folder inside BOTH /Titles/CategoryName and /Transitions/CategoryName folders). If FCPX was running, you should restart it to make sure the new additions will be recognized.

You can use this effect on Titles (including the caustics - if the Title is JUST text then the caustics will just "play" on the text) -- just click on the Video tab (to the right of Title and Text at the top of the inspector to get to the parameters.
Use the "Amount" parameter for transitioning in and out of the liquid part of the effect ( a zero amount is no effect )

This is a "free running" 30 second analog clock generator which can also be keyframed to move forward or backward in time — just set your starting or keyframed times. Amazingly accurate (in 29.97/30 fps projects). Can be "programmed" to set a starting time (or at keyframes...)

Free Final Cut Pro X Effect: 35mm Viewfinder

Fun little coloring filter (more photoshop effects for video)
PS - I know "destructor" is mis-spelled -- it's on purpose :)
Free Final Cut Pro X (FCPX) Title: Flexi-Arrow (or Text on a Path)
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 0:54
You can use this title effect with or without the arrow and use it to animate text along a path. You can use just the arrow without the text... whatever you need. Only wish FCPX allowed animating onscreen control positions; but there's plenty here to work around it.
Miscellaneous notes in the Read Me (PNG). (No tutorial for this one... just music.)

Free Final Cut Pro X (FCPX) Effect: Color Assistant Plus a Tip for Color Adjustments in FCPX
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 6:17
Use Color Assistant (admittedly a trivial but light-weight effect) or *similar* filter as a Color correction/adjustment helper. Very helpful tip for those who miss Color Corrector 3-Way. You can turn off the effect by unchecking the Apply checkbox and just use it for the color picker with Color.
Download from:

Sorry about the color picker thang... southerners speak by inflection -- they can say one thing inflected several different ways and mean entirely different things by it... take for example all the variations of "naked" to "*nekkid*" (italicized/emphasized.)

Free Final Cut Pro X (fcpx) generator: YASL Simple Counter (customizable countdown leader)
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 7:43
Download from:
http://sight-creations.com/free_stuff/sc_simplecountdown.zip
Not a SMPTE leader! Simple countdown animation with a lot of customization features. Circle color changes, line color, font color, background color and opacity, with or without leading zeros for numbers, drop shadow and settings and bad film settings (nearly a complete set.)
Not guaranteed to be accurate. Uses a replicator and sequence replicator behavior for color change animation... This was just fun to build!
———————————————————————
November 20, 2012
Upon request, I've added the ability to set the starting number of the countdown from any number between 10 down to and including 1. I've added a special device that will make the timing the same no matter what length you make the generator; however, making it longer will cause the countdown to restart every 10 seconds and 21 frames (... details... :P ) This means the overall behavior of this generator is slightly different than the original, so you might want to keep both if you like stretching out or speeding up the timing.
There's a read me PDF bundled with this download, as well as the countdown tone (in the same location as the original's):

Free Final Cut Pro X (FCPX) Title: Guitar Tab v1.0
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 6:48
Ok... I know I said I did this because I was bored... not exactly true, but, I did put it together on a day when I didn't have time to do anything else and it was this -- or REALLY be bored... :D Besides, I was trying to "crack" the problem of animating text, which this effect does, to a certain extent. It does allow the user to input a custom set of "lines" and can be animated to display them one at a time. I also use the same technique for the string labels.
Anyway, you can download it from:
http://sight-creations.com/free_stuff/sc_guitarTab.zip
If *anybody* actually uses this in a video - ***I want to see it! *** If I had time, I'd put one together... it will, however, be awhile before that can happen.
http://sightcreations.posterous.com
PS - the old Motion 4 Title (Text Mondrian HD) -- I should have that out relatively shortly. It will be a Title which will give it some interactivity with the base layer video. There's at least one issue remaining to be solved, but if it is FCPX's fault, there may be nothing I can do about it and I'll release it anyway.
Thanks for watching everybody!

This effect can be accomplished in FCPX without this Title effect... but this is so much easier!
Multiple copies of the title can be "trained" together to create "rolling" titles (see accompanying readme for the tip.)
PS - I know there's a bit of a "shimmer" on the Mandevilla (pink flower) clip on the bottom edge... that goes all the way through the clip, not just during the title effect. I don't know what that's from !

Free Final Cut Pro X (FCPX) Generator: the FCPX Slate
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 3:38
One of the first generators I created with Motion 5 -- it's a fairly easy template example to go through in Motion. I say that because Apple might have a problem with you using their FCPX logo (although I figure it's pretty great advertising for their product) and you might have to make a substitution with copyright-free slate artwork (i.e.: do it yourself?!)

Free Final Cut Pro X (FCPX) Generator: Video Slug (and it's only 27KB)
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 3:39
An actual slug is missing from FCPX. I was appalled to find out people are putting out tutorials about the Gap being a slug... it is not! A slug is blank video, not a spacer.... anyway...
You can make a slug yourself really easily in Motion 5 (the simplest project of all!!!)
1) open Motion 5
2) select a Generator project and set the time for the length you want your standard slug to be (mine is 300 frames / 29.97 1080)
3) Save your project as Slug in Backgrounds
That's all there is to it.... OR - you can download my Slug here:
http://sight-creations.com/free_stuff/slug4fcpx.zip
Why is a slug useful? Watch the video... use it to create your own effects from other effects you have in FCPX without going into Motion... Use it to store effects settings. Transition to or from black, or video layered beneath.
thanks for visiting - hope you find it useful!

Free Final Cut Pro X (FCPX) Transition: Shatter 2
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 5:44
The video shows how to deal with time stretching this transition and how to apply the sound effect quickly, forwards and backwards. Extrude controls are also demonstrated.
I adapted the Shatter Effect I created for Motion 4 as a Final Cut Pro X transition. The sound effect is bundled with the project. Due to a new feature in Motion 5, I was able to create a "Reverse" shatter effect as an *option*!

Free Final Cut Pro X (FCPX) effect: Levels
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 2:43

I have another similar effect coming out soon: ColorShop Channels which is designed to allow manipulation of the separate color channels using not only Levels, but Contrast and Sharpening or Blurring (which I will try to explain in the upcoming video.) It is a different enough effect to be released separately.

Free Final Cut Pro X Effect: ColorShop Channels
Category: Film & Animation

Another color/colorize effect for FCPX/Motion 5. This one approximates the Tone Curves controls of Photoshop, plus sharpening/smoothing controls.
Consider Contrast/Pivot as slope controls for the center point. The center point of the curve is the Mids control (or gamma.)
The unique features of this effect are the "mixer", the smoothing (blur) and sharpening controls for each color primary element.

Free Final Cut Pro X (FCPX) Generator—SC Starfield
Category: Film & Animation
Length: 1:20
This generator creates a 2560x2560 "field", so it is possible to use the Transform controls to drag around the generated video to get a "look" you would prefer. However, a side effect of that is that it can take quite some time to render out... so use it sparingly (or export an effect/animation as video and re-import it into your project.)
This video demonstrates a few of the effects that can be achieved.

Free Final Cut Pro X generator: SpinningBBoD (aka the application wait cursor)

the "beloved" Spinning Beach Ball of DEATH we all know and cringe to see, especially in Motion 5 and FCPX. When FCPX dies, it is not as difficult to bear as Motion 5 is, and Motion 5 has inspired this little bit of fluff.
